The End is Coming...well at least when it comes to my car
I am finally coming to grips with the fact that I may need to invest in a new car soon. I have about $1400 in repairs to do...$400 has to be done in two weeks. I recently discovered that my car was leaking fluid and we didn't know what it was. I brought the car to the garage and found out is was not one, but two seperate leaks in my transmission. It will cost me $400 to fix both leaks...which I have to do or the car won't run. So I have to begin the process of saving up for a new car...maybe by the end of the summer I will have amassed enough money to plunk down a down payment in addition to whatever trade deal I can get for my existing car. I think Rick is going to help me look for something new. I honestly don't have any clue what kind of cars are out there, because I simply have not been in the market for one. I just know I can't swing a car payment of over $250 per month...so I guess I won't be buying a Mustang. Money is tight as it is and adding a car payment was never part of the equation...I just paid this car off last May as it is.

    ZZZZZZZ
OK so I am really tired and it sucks. I have recently been working silly shifts and doing 5 AM inventories on top of everything. When I do get the chance to get some sleep, I can never stay asleep. Even last night, I woke up at 3:30 thinking it was time to get up when I had another three hours to sleep. It's very frustrating because I need to be with it enough to get my work done. Work, on the whole, has been ok. We are still beating last year's numbers, but getting my staff to understand the importance of helping those numbers along is more of a challenge. I think they are content to just let things go by without trying...as if things will just work out anyway regardless of their pushing it along. I can't do it. Take subscriptions for instance. I came in on Thursday and we only had one for the week. That is completely unacceptible. By the end of the night we had pushed that number to 6. By closing on Saturday, I believe we ended up with fourteen...still not great, but sure as hell better than one. At least my review is coming up in a couple of weeks and that should be good. We had a phenominal year and my raise should reflect that. Here's hoping...I need the money.

    Christmas Time
It is beginning to feel a little more like Christmas. I am exhausted from working long days and having to get up super early each day. I did have one bright spot this past weekend. My dear friend...and former roommate Brian came to visit for the weekend and we had a great time. Though it was really a short visit, it was great to see him. After just recently finding out he bought himself a Nintendo Wii, I decided he must own the newest version of Mario Kart..and addiction we both suffered through in college. He bought my 101 Dalmations and The Aristocats on dvd. I am kinda excited because it was the first present I have given to someone so it felt good. Christmas is next Thursday...and I have to work ten days straight...fun fun fun.

    London
So I am off to London in just a few short days. I have to get through one more shift tomorrow and then I have Monday to do last minute things like laundry and packing. I am starting to look forward to this trip...not because I am going to London, but because I am getting away for a bit. Work has been ridiculously stressful lately because of really stupid things. I won't have to be worried about bills while I am there...no cooking or dishes to wash...no laundry to do either. I am happy to see these wonderful places and learn new things...or relearn things I may have forgotten. It should be fun...although different than last time.

    England Tidbit
We are opting out of going to Canterbury and Dover Castle time around, but that gives us an extra free day. Turns out we are staying at the exact hotel we stayed in before...now if we can just get the same tour guide life will be golden.

:UPDATE: We didn't get Lynn Fox who was our tour guide last time. I found out today that our tour guide is named Stan Pretty and he is a classically trained actor whoe owns his own Shakespeare company...should be interesting.

    Bioshock
It was recently announced that Gore Verbinski is set to direct the motion picture version of the Xbox 360 game Bioshock. As the recipient of the Game of the Year award for 2007, Bioshock has become one of the truly great games. While it does have a mature rating due to blood, violence, language, and some serious moral issues, it is one of the best games to have ever been made. That sounds like an easy thing to say, but I truly feel that the game sets itself apart from traditional FPS games. Gore Verbinski, late of the Pirates trilogy, has a very large task ahead of him because the game has a huge backstory that you only learn as you travel through the games over the course of several hours. Bioshock also has one of the most interesting plot twists I have ever see and it will be interesting to see how Gore will handle that. Anyone who has played the game will know going into the movie what that twist is. It's like seeing the end of the Sixth Sense before the rest of the movie. Let's hope we get a decent movie out of it and not some cheap game ripoff like Uwe Boll likes to make. Why am I posting this...no reason..just thinking.

    Jobs
So I have begun the search for a new job. There is nothing serious going on with my current job and I am not totally unhappy, but I need to find something a little more financially lucrative and not retail. I have gone to one interview for becoming a Certified Financial Advisor, but there was no way I could ever come up with $1300 for fees. One of my former coworkers' partner work for COX Communications dealing with corporate accounts so I am exploring that option as well. Overall, I like my current job and my store is doing very well, but I am very tired of retail. I had said over Christmas that this was going to be my last retail Christmas and I truly meant that. We live check to check and bills are looming. I need something that can knock down these bills and be interesting enough to keep my attention. I am tired of people everyone's punching bag when they can't get a Wii or being yelled at because a customer never bothered to read their receipt. It's just so annoying ang I really hate going to work some days. What gets me out of bed is that my job is fun and I love my staff. If there were no customers to deal with, I would be fine. So I shall continue my search for the perfect job. We shall see what happens.

    Christmas Presents
Knocked out some gifts last night and now only have one check to get the rest. I am going to have to be creative with how I do this because I still have a bunch of people to buy for. I had forgotten that I needed to reregister my car this week. That was $60 that I had thought was going to presents, but I remembered it on my way home from work. Good thing I could do that online because the registration expired today. Anyway, I am fairly content with my shopping yesterday so it's a chunk out of the way. There are a couple of presents I can wait to buy until after Christmas because I won't see some people until then. The important people are pretty much out of the way already...well mostly. I have a detailed story to tell about my mother's gouging of our Christmas family traditions this year, but that can wait until tomorrow. Now I have to get ready for work and drop off our rent check.

    Christmas
I am facing the onset of a very busy Christmas shopping season and it dawned on me that Rick and need to get through our own shopping. We are both going to be so busy at our respective stores and I have no clue how we are going to manage it. Things have come up so quickly. We only have two weeks before Thanksgiving and then another three weeks before Christmas itself. We briefly talked about what we are buying people so at least we have somewhat of a plan. We made a new Amazon Wish List for both of us. I figure it will be easier to buy presents from both of us and then everyone can buy a present for us together. I haven't talked to Kim in a while, but Becky sent me an IM that she will be around on Christmas. Looks like the gang will be back together...and this time in our new apartment!!!

    Doom Approaches
I'll just say that prior to me spending the better part of the day in a District Holiday meeting, I stopped by my store this morning to retrieve some essentials for my meeting and I noticed that the mall was playing Christmas music. Not to mention that Santa will be arriving at my mall on the 10th. It is far too early.

    WOW
It has been over a year since my last entry on LJ. So many things have happened in the last 13 months or so, but I won't lay them all out in an entry because it simply would take too long. Suffice it to say that things are much better. Rick and I finally have our own apartment after six long years of being in a long distance relationship. I had wondered how going from seeing one another twice a week to every day would change things, but we have made the transition with almost no issue at all. It's wonderful having the freedom to not have to check in with my mother or worry about waking up Shannon. Rick can come and go as he pleases instead of worrying that his presence will cause a problem. It's a huge weight lifted off our shoulders and the added responsibilities of paying rent is worth all of the positives. Though we have discovered many things about one another, but two of us are for the better. Anyway...last thing to mention is that I am also working in a new store. This past March, I was moved from the EB Games in the Dartmouth Mall to the Gamestop in the Silver City Galleria. I went from Seekong to Dartmouth to Taunton. It's a bigger store and the staff is much more helpful. Our numbers need some work, but I've been there for nine months so that is only a recent issue. Anyway...off I go. Hopefully I will keep this up again...I used to post so much. Good to be back. Later.

    Quick Update
It's been ages, but I can only post something quick...I officially have my own store now. I was made the Store Manager of the EB Games at the Dartmouth Mall. I started yesterday and have already tried making a dent in the massive issues the store is plagued with. Suffice it to say that the manager before me decided not to do most of the requirements of his position. My work is definitely cut out for me.

Ok so I spoke too soon. It's been a little longer than I expected, but it looks as if we are nearing a decision. I could still be getting a store soon. Strangely enough, my DM did call me last week to see if I wanted to interview for a different store, but I turned it down because it was even farther than the last one and I knew there was a more qualified manager ready to go. It's not like I was being offered the store...more like to interview for the store and see if I got it. I was being told to not go for it because of the distance and Brian said the area was really bad. So it looks like I am now on track to get our store...if Brian decides to leave. Hopefully he will make that decision soon.
